Capstone the big bad project that hides under your bed at night and plagues you with anxiety. Of course, this is a very normal feeling about Capstone. After all it’s a project you work on all year or well you used to work on it all year round. Starting this year, Capstone has been shortened to a one semester class instead of the year around it used to be (Unless you’re part of honors Capstone). With these new adjustments, many arrangements had to be made to make this formerly yearlong class work with its new time restraints, for example an increased amount of work and new sharper deadlines.

Many students have voiced their concerns about the class. We’ve interviewed both teachers and students alike to get their thoughts on the Capstone class so far. The interviews range from complaints to helpful tips to pass the class, for example. A student from the 1st period Biotech Capstone class has gone on record saying. “It’s a step-by-step process, just finish the work as soon as it’s in and don’t let it pile up.” The same student also went on record saying that Capstone was a source of stress, a thought which many echo.

Regardless, it’s not only students but teachers who also echo thoughts about stress and the workload when asked about which if they preferred 1 semester or 2 semester class, they answered “I prefer the 2-semester class I think we’re very rushed and I feel like I’m pulled very thin.” Although there are many concerns about the current state and effectiveness of the 1 semester only Capstone class, only time will tell if it truly works.
