Multiple students around the campus were asked a series of questions; all of the questions were the same. But, none of the answers that were received were the same; the students were asked about the struggles they faced with mental health while in school. One student recalled having to step out of the classroom just so they could get some fresh air and walk around a bit to calm themselves down. Another student had tried to speak to the councilor about some problems they were facing, they were told to schedule another meeting with the councilor since they were “too busy dealing with other students’ schedules at the moment.” It’s no surprise this is the response some students get; the councilor has at least a hundred students to help. But what exactly would be another alternative for the problems students face? There’s both a social worker and a school therapist in the building both will be more than willing to sit down and talk with students that need help or those that just need someone to speak to. In order for students to speak to the therapist, they’ll have to go to the councilor, and they should be able to reference the students to the therapist.
