A Look into Fairchild Wheeler Students Backpacks

Half asleep, warm under the covers of their bed, a high school student presses stop on their alarm clock and unwillingly stumbles out of bed. Putting on their clothes and lacing up their shoes, they grab their backpack for the school day ahead of them. Inside that backpack, items they deem essential for the next 8 hours. Let’s take a look at what some Fairchild Wheeler students carry around all day!

We interviewed three students to see what items live in their bags/backpacks. Here is what student #1 lugs along:

  • iPad
  • Lint roller
  • Folder
  • Wireless charger
  • Pencil case
  • Notebook
  • Emergency pouch
  • Snacks
  • Keys
  • Clorox wipes
  • Uno
  • More snacks
  • Mini uno!

When asked why there are two sets of uno in their bag, Student #1 said, “During free-time or lunch I like to play Uno, it just keeps the school day fun!” After looking into student #1’s bag, we were eager to find out what other students bring along with them to school. Student #2 shared similar items with student #1. Some of those items being:

  • iPad
  • Financial literacy papers
  • Toiletry pouch
  • Air pods
  • Snacks
  • Wallet
  • Second set of air pods!
  • Kendra Scott necklace
  • Aquaphor
  • Powder puff
  • Comb and brush
  • iPhone charger
  • Summer Fridays (Pink Guava!!!)
  • Alex & Annie and Pandora bracelets

Although, this student also had some items that student #1 did not have… and most likely no one else on campus! Items like birthday candles and Pokémon cards can also be found inside their bag. When asked about the birthday candles, the student said, “Because it’s my friend’s birthday!”

Surprisingly, birthday candles weren’t the most unique items to join the day. Student #3 carried around very normal school items:

  • iPad
  • Two folders
  • Notebook
  • Water bottle
  • Pencil case

But it turns out this student is also carrying some Christmas cheer, because if you dig a little deeper, you’ll also find a Santa hat in their backpack! The student told us he still has it in there because he, “wore it one time.”

Whether it’s birthday candles or a Santa hat, stories can be told by what’s in our bags. Showing just how complex and unique everyone’s life is. Living inside our backpacks are the items we find most important to get us through our day!
