As the first semester comes to an end, students across campus are reflecting on their Spotify wrapped. Music is a tool that helps students through long nights of studying, stressful exams, and moments of laughter. From Indie and R&B to musical soundtracks, students’ listening habits show how diverse our schools’ music taste truly is. 
 
In Biotech, a student’s music is deeply personal and emotional. One student with 44,963 minutes listened; their music taste leans to indie and alternative artists like Frank Ocean, Daniel Cesar, and Mac Demarco. Her top song, “Moonlight on the River” by Mar DeMarco, reflects their calm, reflective listening style. “That song stuck with me, especially during freshman year when I felt alone.” “It feels nostalgic and emotional at the same time,” Their top genres were pop rap, indie rap, soft pop, R&B, and Afrobeats, making her listening age 27. Despite her music taste, her trio album was Hamilton, showing how much they love storytelling in music. 

Another Biotech student had a strong connection to pop and Urbano music. With 32,000 minutes of listening and listening age of 21, their top artists were Sabrina Carpenter, Karol G, Shakira, and Taylor Swift. Their top song was “Casi en Moreno” by Karol G, highlighting how much love they have for Latin pop. “I like music in Spanish because I love to sing and dance.” “My mood is always positive when listening to Spanish music.” Their listening club matched the first student in biotech, Club Serotonin meaning that truly both like upbeat and energetic music choices. 

In Aerospace, a student spent 28,434 minutes listening, and a surprising listening age of 78. Top song was “Vienna,” which came as a shock because “I thought it was Sliver Springs, but it was “Vienna.”  Her top artists were Dave, Leslie Odom Jr., Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Don Moen, showing her passionate deep connection to Broadway and music taste. 

In the IT school, a student with an impressive 223,879 minutes listened to SpotifyHer top artist was Kali Uchis, who dominated her top songs and albums. “Her music just matches my emotions.” Her genres included dream pop, art pop, alternative R&B, and hip hop, and she proudly belongs to the Soft Hearts Club.

Another IT student had the highest listening total of 320,266 minutesTheir music taste leaned toward neoclassical and instrumental artists like Fabrizio Paterlini and Yehezkel Raz. “I like music that helps me focus and feel calm,” when studying, or doing daily tasks. Their top song was, Kitchen Flowers,” and top album, the Arcane Season 2 Soundtrack, reflecting his cinematic and emotional listening style. 
 
Music has a powerful impact on students when they need background noise. Whether it is Broadway show tunes, Latin pop hits, or calming piano pieces, the power of music shows a lot about the students in Fairchild Wheeler and how they move throughout the world.
